Here you will learn specialized mummification techniques for embalming many animal species, such as crocodiles, cats, and fish. Mummified animals are unique to this museum’s collection.
You will also see mummification tools, embalming materials, wooden figurines and a beautiful set of canopic jars. Also on display are animal mummies including a crocodile, a cat and a Khnum ram with its golden Elephantine case.
You will see ancient tablets that record the funeral journey from death to burial. The museum is divided into Artifacts Room, Conference Room, Video Room, and Cafeteria.

Opened to the public in 1997, the luxor Mummification Museum illustrates the processes used to preserve human and animal remains, a practice considered by the ancient Egyptians as a fundamental part of the search for eternal life.
The museum exhibits human and animal mummies, tools used in the mummification process and examples of the types of objects traditionally buried with the dead during the Pharaonic era.
A collection of well-preserved mummy cases, mostly from the driest climate in South Egypt, is displayed at the entrance of the museum along with a statue of Anubis, the jackal-headed god who leads the dead into the underworld.
